Betül Aksu’nun kişisel sergisi Permessus, tarihçesi ve sınırları belirsiz, henüz tamamı gün yüzüne çıkmamış bir antik kenti odağına alır. Sergideki işler sınırları normalleştiren kültürel, sosyal ve resmi karar mekanizmalarına yakından bakar.
Sergiye de adını veren antik kentin ismi Permessus, İtalyancada izin anlamına gelen ve oturma izni için kullanılan kısaltma sözcük permesso (di soggiorno) dan gelir. Betül, İtalya ve İngiltere’de çalışmak için başvurduğu izinlerin gündelik hayatta yol açtığı kısıtlamaları sorgulamak için Permessus kentinin kalıntılarında zihinsel bir kazı denemesi yapar. Sanatçının bu süreçte edindiği bulgulara göre izin ve sınır kavramlarının akışkan bırakıldığı Permessus’a giriş için -günümüzün aksine- resmi prosedürlere ihtiyaç yoktur. Hayal gücü ve sezgilerini takip eden herkes kente serbestçe girebilir.
Serginin içeriğini yerleştirmeler, bir video, sanatçının yıllar içinde biriktirdiği hatıra nesneleri, metinler, basılı materyaller ve yaptığı antik kent gezilerinde çektiği fotoğraflar oluşturur. Çalışmalar Permessus’un keşfinin yalnızca fiziksel kalıntıları topraktan çıkarmaktan ibaret olmadığına; bilgiyle birlikte duyguları da takip ederek kalıntıların farklı katmanlarına ulaşmanın mümkün olduğuna işaret eder.
Bulgularını incelemek için sergide kılavuz vazifesi gören bir sohbet robotu kullanan Betül, bilginin yayılma mecralarının güvenilirliğine dair sorular sorar. Permessus’ta geçmişe yönelik bir tahayyül üzerinden henüz var olmadığı halde gerçekleşmesi mümkün bir hayal kurarak mevcut sınırların müstakbel değişimlerini araştırmayı amaçlar.
