Betül Aksuediting table
2024
Installation
Paper, clay, wet wipe, books, notes, laptop

editing table invites visitors into the working process behind Permessus. The table is assembled anew each time the project is exhibited, offering a changing selection of objects that reflect the editorial and material considerations shaping the series. Scattered across the surface are tools used during installation such as wet wipes, tape, papers, along with books, handwritten notes, test tiles, and the artist’s laptop.

Visitors reach this work after crossing the installation titled research or display, which poses a question about the roles of artworks as finished presentations or ongoing inquiries. In this context, editing table extends the conversation, offering a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes logic of the project.

The computer periodically reveals a screensaver of photographs showing horizontal columns from ancient sites. These images, taken by Betül during early research, are presented in their original, unedited form. Not intended as artworks, they function as raw visual data, quiet indicators of process and ongoing exploration. Their temporary appearance, emerging only when the screen is idle, mirrors the shifting and provisional nature of Permessus.

Also on the table are fired clay test tiles. These are the only elements in the exhibition that have undergone transformation through heat, suggesting a point where material shifts from research to form. As part of the Permessus series, this installation highlights the space of editing as a site of transition, where materials and meaning remain in movement.
